Love Holds Things Together

Good times and bad times; Happy times and sad times; Love helps hold life together. It is a wonderful feeling to hold the one you love in the best of times and the worst of times.

My nephew just died. It was as hard for Sharon as it was for me. Guess what. A big hug goes a long way to soothing the soul and calming the emotions.

This is why I am so pro-marriage, two soul-mates can weather just about anything as long as they have the strength of their love to get them through whatever is going on.

In a throw-away society staying married is one of the best things you can keep in your life. The key is to be sure love is nurtured from the beginning and daily from then on.

I believe Sharon and I have been married for 42 years because we became best friends once we started dating. There was no one either of us would rather be with than each other.

A loving Partner To Help Through Sad Times

When there is a sad event in your life that tears up the emotions of one partner or both, it is wonderful to have a loving spouse to get you through the emotional crisis.

Many events trigger sad feelings. Today, many people are losing their homes to foreclosure. There are illnesses and even deaths that bring on tears and grief.

Tightly holding onto the one you love and working through things together helps ease the pain. Being with someone you have already held close in sad times in the past helps today.

Our saying, "Being married to you means my best friend is always here" doubly applies when a tragedy of some sort touches your life. Big and little problems are easier to go through with the one you love.

A husband or wife if not only for love and romance, but also to caring and comfort. Two can handle any situation easier than one. Two soul mates make it even that much easier.

Why this topic today? My brother called this morning and said his son died in an auto wreck.

Thinking About Love

I have been thinking lately that when I post to this blog I focus on love more and have more romantic thoughts throughout the day. Little things like a touch and a kiss some to come to mind more readily when I talk about the same things here.

Could it be that blogging is good for a relationship. Is it just that you are "putting down on paper" (so to speak) your thoughts and ideas and it brings romance to the forefront of of your mind.

I've been reading more back posts and I was much more romantic when I was posting here than I have been for a while. Again just the little things that make a relationship work.

Without writing about romance I began taking things for granted. HMMMMmmmmmmm! Food for thought, for me at least.

Twitter Got Me Going Again

I opened a Twitter account and started Tweeting (posting) there. My Twitter ID is romanticways You can follow me there if you have a twitter account.

Low traffic and a lot of personal things got me away from blogging.

Sharon and I are still here in Oxnard and still have our warehouse.

Since I am writing on Twitter and getting into the habit, I thought it was time to get this blog going again also.

3 Vistors Per Day

Have you ever noticed the counter at the bottom of this page? It increments about 3 visitors a day. Did you notice I missed yesterday’s blog entry. I thought about it but then once again forgot. With only three visitors a day, I was getting rather discourage about writing, so for the time being I will only be updating the blog on a periodic basis.

When I find more compelling things to write about and figure a way to make the blog more popular, I may go back to the way it originally was, daily. In the mean time I will be holding it a once a week or maybe less, I am not sure at this time.

Going Camping Again

This weekend we are going camping again. Another romantic getaway to let go of the day to day pressures and stress. It is relaxing and fun to get away from home for a day or two. Once again we will camp on the beach.

OK, yes, I’m a day late. I am supposed to blog on Mondays and Thursdays. Yesterday I forgot to write two of my blogs. I got involved in work. Then Sharon took me shopping and to the bank and time got away from me and I forgot important things I was supposed to be doing.

Today is partly cloudy and the forecast for our camping weekend it the same. It should be a great time at the beach. Yesterday was a very warm day here on the California Coast. I love it as the weather begins warming up again.

Blog Site Down Today YIKES!

Well, I am not really late. I am, but with good reason, I could not get to blogger.com to post my blogs until just a few minutes ago. 7:40 p.m. YIKES!

Sunday was funday. We drove up the coast to see sea lions and their pups. We were on a bluff overlooking a beach in Carpenteria, California. What an exciting sight. Mothers and babies on the beach and swimming in the water. The babies can swim as soon as they are born.

Sharon packed us a lunch to eat on the beach. Yes, away from the seals. The wind was blowing too hard and blowing sand across the beach. We sat in the car and ate while watching the blowing sand and sea gulls navigating in the wind. It was fun regardless of the windy conditions.

Because of the wind, the ocean looked angry. White caps and dark water. It is interesting to see the different characters the ocean has. It changes with the weather.

After lunch we drove back down the coast and stopped at another beach, but this time we got out and walked along the shore. Still windy, but not as much blowing sand. All in all Sunday was a wonderful day.

This is what I keep talking about. Get out and do things together. This was an inexpensive drive up the coast. Lunch came from home and was delicious. We saw some exciting sights and walked the beach. All of this adds to a romantic life style.

Romantic Plan For The Weekend

It is Thursday already. Do you have a romantic plan for the weekend? Romantic is any activity you do that gets you and the one you love active in something other than sitting around watching TV or doing routine tasks.

A walk in the park or a weekend at a resort. They are all just as romantic. Romance is a frame of mind. If you are together having a good time, that is a romantic moment. A kiss, a touch, or even a smile bring romance to the most casual activity.

So, plan a romantic weekend today. Get an idea and follow through on it. Later on as you look back over the years, you will never say, “I wish I’d watched more TV”. You might say, I wish we had spent more time in the park or at the lake.

Never regret what you did not do, but make it a point to be doing so much that you will look back with memories upon memories. What you do in the beginning of a relationship helps build what you will still do years later. Make today your day to plan a romantic weekend.

Get Closer -- Go Away Together

One thing can help bring you closer and that is to go away for the weekend together. When you are away from friends, family and work, you can drop all of your defenses and just be yourselves. It gives you some freedom to express you love for each other and enjoy time together that is very different than time together at home.

Sharon and my weekend getaways are usually camping weekends. We find this time relaxing and rejuvinating. Even if you are on a budget and a full weekend at a resort or even a motel is not possible, you can alway find a way to get some time together away from the house or apartment. Pack a picnic lunch, in brown bags, and go to the local park. Get creative and get away together and do it as often as you can.

The habits you develop when you are first going together and when you are first married, will be the ones that carry through the years. Little things add up to a strong relationship that lasts.

Camping was great. We took off for four full days and loved every minute of it. There was rain at the campground, but it did not dampen our spirits. We had a covered area to eat in and with 30 RVs there was always someone out and about to talk with. The food was good and so much of it.

We met camping friends we had camped with in the past and we met new friends who joined the group for the first time. This is a group that met online and just wanted to go camping. Someone says, “I’m going camping” and soon 5 or 10 or more others are joining in. Some live only a few miles from each other. Many drive 200 miles and sometimes more to join in the fun.

This is not a camping organization. It is simply people who have met online in a RV forum. Anyone is invited to the camping rallies. You see a lot of the same people each time you go, but you also have new people coming in.

Do You Want Romantic?

We have arrived at the campground we will be staying at until Sunday. Do you want romantic? This is it. We are parked on grass looking out over a river. The sun is shining and it is warm enough for short sleeves in the sun. In the shade it is a little cool. Sharon and I are in the motorhome right now with the door open to get a little breeze inside.

This is a gorgeous day. Our drive up here took seven hours. Along the way there were lots of farm workers picking strawberries in the fields. Of course the orange groves are full of oranges and the wild sunflower are blooming along the side of the road.

Our first stop was breakfast in the motorhome. We stopped at a state fun trout fish hatchery to eat. After breakfast we walked along the cement tanks of trout. What an interesting place. You should visit a fish hatcher one day.

A roadside rest stop is not necessary when you are in an RV. You can pull over anywhere for a break and pit stop. Our second stop was at a highway rest stop. We needed to walk Poky The Dog, and that was a convenient place as we were driving on the freeway.

Shopping is always fun. There is a big camping store along the way, so we stopped for a few things we needed for the motorhome. This place is amazing. They have a huge warehouse and there are two acres of RVs inside the building. It is fun to go inside new motorhomes and dream of what we would like to own.

We love out 1988 Bounder motorhome, but those new ones are really something else. If you have never checked out motorhomes and trailers, do it just for fun. It is an experience.

Love Is Camping With Someone Special

This coming weekend Sharon and I are going camping. Love cannot get much better than camping with someone you love. OK, some of you may not be into camping, so you can change that to a weekend getaway. Regardless of how you do it, time away from home with your love is a great way to lower the stress of daily life.

Sharon and I are having fun preparing for the trip. We have a check list to go down to be sure we do not forget anything. We started using it yesterday in preparation for leaving on Thursday. This is the same type of preparation a couple needs for preparing for their wedding. If you leave things to memory, you will often forget something very important.

I have talked about check lists in the past and even have a page on the website about them. Take a look at Wedding Check Lists. They are even important for packing for your honeymoon.

Our camping trip is for four days (I told you 3, but it is actually 4 days) and includes three potluck meals. There will be about 30 RVs attending. A potluck dinner with corned beef and cabbage as the main dish. A potluck dinner with a whole bar-b-qued pig as the main dish and a breakfast potluck with boiled omlettes as the main dish. WOW! So much food.

More fun! We will be meeting a couple we met through Ebay up there too. They live in the area, so we invited them to the Pig Potluck Dinner. We have known them online for a few years. We have met them in person once for dinner at a restaurant. This will be fun getting back together with them.

Having Fun With Sharon's New Dog

Sharon got a new Saint Bernard Dog. As we left a store we saw him in a box for only $10. Since Sharon had been such a good “Mother Hen”, I said, lets get it. All the way home she hugged and cuddled that dog. We named him DOG which is pronounced “Doe-Gee”. I will put a picture at the end of the blog for your enjoyment.

We are getting our motorhome all ready to go camping on the 10th through the 12th of this month. We will be going with about 30 other rigs of RVing friends we have met on the internet. We will be camping next to a river. RIVER in California means anything from a trickle up to a big river, not huge river. This river was only a couple feet deep and maybe 100 feet across at the widest where we camped. We could wade across it.

I put up two more pages on the site Florida Beach Wedding and Wedding Favors. I have a couple more pages in rough draft that I need to complete and the initial site will be complete. Next I will have to think about other things to add to the site. I have a number of ideas, but need to plan them out.

Because it is time to start making some money, Sharon and I are going back to selling on Ebay. We made our living on Ebay for a number of years and then took a vacation from selling for a while. We are going back to it as of today.

Ebay is a good way to earn a living. You start slow and build it up part time. Ebay allow us to move from a hot inland valley to the beach within 6 months of starting to sell. The really fun part of have Ebay as our only “job” was that we worked together. We love working with each other. It makes the day go by quicker and keeps us closer.

Mother Hen

Love shows itself in many ways. Today we were in our office on a rainy Southern California day. Suddenly there was the sound of a collision on the street outside. A big rig in the left lane was making a right turn across the right lane. The 17 year old girl in the right lane could not avoid hitting the truck cutting across in front of her. He was making the turn from the wrong lane.

Any time we hear a crash nearby we run out to be sure there is no one hurt or that if there is we can call 911. Today’s crash left a young girl in tears. She wasn’t hurt, but she was sobbing so bad she could barely talk. Sharon went over to her and put her arm around her to comfort her and the girl hugged Sharon tightly. She was so shaken and teary, that she hugged Sharon for a least 1/2 hour until her father arrived. We had her use our cell phone to call him.

I have now named Sharon, “Mother Hen”. She felt very good being able to comfort a young woman who was scared. At 17 in a 2005 Honda and her second accident, she was fearful of what her Dad’s reaction would be. He seemed to take is calmly.

So today’s blog has nothing to do with romance and marriage, but is certainly has to do with love and how it can be shared, even with strangers.

Elvis Weddings In Las Vegas

I finally posted two more articles to the website. This first is about having an Elvis Presley Wedding in Las Vegas at Elvis Wedding In Las Vegas. The second is about planning a second wedding. Sharon is cleaning the inside of the motorhome. She is also taking out stuff we do not need to have in there. We have another rally camping trip planned in two weeks. We need to get rid of some of the accumulation in the RV. It just adds up to excess weight. Every extra pound of weight means less gas mileage and for vehicle that gets under 6 MPG, every pound is important.

Until I get an inspiration on things to talk about I am going to cut this blog down to posting twice a week. From now on I will post on Mondays and Thursdays. I have some ideas, but cannot seem to get them clear in my head, so I am going to make it easier on both of us by posting less.

Terri Clark Concert

Last night Sharon and I attended a Terri Clark Concert. We won the tickets on our local country radio station. Terri was fantastic. We really love her music. She has a number of songs we really love to hear.

The theater was the Thousand Oaks Performing Arts Theater. It is a fairly small theater that gives you an intimate feeling wherever you sit. Since our tickets were freebies, they were up in the balcony. We take a small pair of binoculars, so they bring us close up to the stage.

Funny thing, we met a couple women at our county fair last year. It was for a performance by Terri Clark. Later in the year they told us of a free concert in the park staring the country group, “Sugarland”. We saw them there. In an email I mentioned we were going to see Terri Clark on the 21st and they were too. One of the woman was being treated to a night out on here birthday.

I know the DJ who introduced Terri, so I asked if he would say, “Happy Birthday” to our friend. He did and she was very surprised. We had a lot of fun.

This is what romance is about. Having fun together and doing things that bring a smile you your faces.

One thing that makes Sharon and I happy is camping. Guess what? We are going camping again in just over two weeks. This will be another rally with friends we have met on the internet. If you camp, maybe we’ll meet you one day too. Camping with friends is the best.

Romantic Sunset Soon

Sharon and I are in the motorhome on a high bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It is 5:20 and the sun is dipping toward the western horizon. We are close to another gorgeous sunset.

Our weekend away has been wonderful. This has been a four day weekend camping with other RVing friends. Three potluck dinners and one potluck breakfast has us eating well every day. One trouble, every dinner was preceded by a table of hors-d'oeuvres brought by each family. WOW! An amazing amount of food.

It was foggy each morning and we would see deer in the fog. You cannot get much more romantic than morning fog and deer in amongst the trees.

Driving home we went about 20 miles out of our way to see elephant seals. The mothers have already given birth and the pups are very large. Only a few mothers remain on the beach. They go out to sea and leave their babies to learn to swim by themselves. It is very interesting to hear the docents (volunteer guides) tell about their lives.

Not only did we see seals on the beach in in the water close to shore, we also saw a couple of sea otters out farther in a kelp bed. We need binoculars to see them they were so far offshore. It was fun watching them dive and come up and float on their backs while they ate.

All in all this has been a wonderful and romantic weekend getaway. Right now the ocean is beginning to turn an evening pink as the sun gets closer to the horizon. I guess it is time to close and take Sharon outside to watch it set.

Romantic Walk On The Beach

This is our four day camping weekend. We left home before breakfast and headed up the coast. After about 30 minutes we dropped down off of the freeway and headed to the beach. The first thing we did was take a romantic walk on the beach. Holding hands and enjoying the morning air. It was a beautiful day.

We ate breakfast in our motorhome and then headed on up the coast. About 25 miles from the campground we ran into heavy rain. Luckily is was gone about 5 miles from the campground and has been sunny ever since. We still have clouds, but it is beautiful.

Are are camping with 15 internet friends from Southern to mid-California. We will have two potluck dinners and one potluck breakfast. Wonderful food.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Lover’s Day! Today is Valentine’s Day, the most romantic day of the year. Candy and flowers are everywhere. I hope your day with your love is as romantic as can be.

So far today, the only thing we did was get married. MARRIED? We get married every Valentine’s Day at our local country radio station. We are married by the morning DJs and the wedding is proclaimed to good only for 24 hours. It is a fun event and we get a few small gifts in a bag of treasures. It is a really fun and funny event.

FUNNY? Yes, funny. The male DJ dresses up in a wedding gown every year. This year he dressed in a red evening gown. His female partner is dressed nicely in a red sparkely cocktail dress. It is a drive through wedding. They have you drive through the parking lot and get “hitched” in front of one of the station doors.

Love Is A Many Splendored Thing

I like being in love. I like having a wonderful woman who loves me and supports me. Love truly is a many splendored thing. It even makes walking Poky The Dog a pleasure. I told you that we walk Poky, hold hands, pick dandelions and other flowers along the way. Today I picked a big yellow hibiscus flower that Sharon put in here hair.

Remember we have been married 39 years and this is the way we feel about each other. I have also told you what I believe is our secret, “being best friends”.

These best friends are going camping in our old 1988 Bounder motorhome this coming holiday weekend. Presidents Day weekend will be a four day weekend for us. We will be going to Lake San Antonio State Campground, California. It is about 250 miles north of Los Angeles and inland 20 miles from the coast.

WOW! Not only is there a holiday coming, but there is also another special day next week, Valentine’s Day. I think we will have to have some fresh flowers for our motorhome on this trip. Maybe cut flowers or maybe a potted flowering plant we will get at the Farmer’s Market on Sunday.

Walking Your Dog Is Romantic

Even walking your dog with your loved one on a daily basis can be a romantic adventure. It does not matter if you talk a lot, but only if you walk, hold hands and enjoy each other’s company. Sharon and I walk Poky The Dog daily. We go hand in hand in an industrial area by our warehouse. Each walk has a touch of romance in it.

You really have to broaden your idea of romance. It is not just candlelit dinners and moonlight strolls in the park. It is any activity you do together. Time spent together is just a gentle tough away from being romantic. A soft laughter or knowing smile is all it takes to bring romance to any place or situation.

Romance is only of matter of what you believe is romantic. I believe any time together is romantic. If you love the person you are with, romance is there. Hold hands, touch an arm, caress a hand and you have a romantic interlude going for you.

Last night we had a fun and romantic evening sitting in an audience laughing and having a wonderful time. We went to a taping of the hit TV show, “Reba”. It took about 3 hours to tape the episode. We laughed, held hands, giggled and participated in the “between shots” MC’s entertainment.

Reba was great. We are country music fans and have loved her for a long time. After the taping the cast stays on the set so people can take pictures and get autographs.

The moonlit drive home along the California coast was the end of a beautiful day.

Back To Work

Well, it is Monday and we are back to work. I wanted to work at the campground but other than posting to blogs, I didn’t do any work. Like I told you, I really need to learn to work while camping. Maybe the answer is to get up and go to work and not leave the motorhome until a certain time or until I have accomplished a certain amount of work.

I talked about the “Butterfly Marketing” program that is being offered right now for $995, with lots of bonuses, plus if you buy it from a sponsor’s link, lots more bonuses. I thought long and hard on that. I have a lot of material I have already purchased. I do not think I have time to read it all and study it. I will not buy this program at that price. It may be well worth it and return more than it costs, but I will pass.

Two things I have read are:
1. Put away your credit card. If you already have a program or two. Get busy and follow them. There is no one right way to make money. There are a lot of right ways. Get focused and follow one path until you are making money and then look at other things.
2. Ten progams gathering “dust” on your hard drive or on a bookshelf will not make you any money. This goes back to number 1, you need to apply what you have and then worry about trying 10 other things.

Whatever program you become involved in, the only secret you need to know is, “Do something daily”. “Do something” means doing a job that creates a product. It is not reading forums or studying a guru course. It means writing or programming or actual research of a subject an immediate writing about it. Anything that does not create a product is not work. All the rest may be necessary, but the only thing you get pair for is a product that is online and working for you. A product is a webpage with ads on it, or a program or ebook you are selling.

What A Wonderful Weekend

Our camping weekend was great. What a wonderful weekend it was. We saw lots of dolphins swimming close to shore. We met some wonderful camping neighbors in both RVs and tents. The weather was not bad. It was warm enough. It was overcast and foggy a lot of the time, but still very nice beach weather. We live in a beach town, so are used to fog and like the weather whatever it is.

Because we are camping in a motorhome, even camping in the rain is fun. When you are with someone you love, camping or any activity is a lot better than it would be otherwise.

Sharon’s birthday was Saturday and when we walked our dog late Saturday night we came to another campsite with a roaring fire where a gentleman was also having a birthday. He gave Sharon a blue and a purple helium fill balloon. We really had a good weekend.

When we checked out of the campground at noon, but just drove up the coast a couple miles and parked on a small bluff overlooking the water.

OH, did I tell you we find fossils in the beach rocks? In this small stretch of coast we have found three fossils. When we showed one of our fossils to the campers next to use, they found three themselves. We gave our fossil to the eight year old boy with them.

It Is Romantic At The Beach

We are camped at the beach with a romantic campfire going in front of us. I am at the picnic table writing my blogs and Sharon is sitting to the left of me reading.

We have seen dolphins swim by just at the surf line at least 4 times and it is only 1 o’clock. We have seen a couple of seals swim by. It is exciting to see them. Yes, we see them any time we come to the beach, but the thrill never goes away.

I am sitting at our picnic table right now looking out at the ocean. We already have a nice fire going. In fact Sharon is putting some more wood on it right now.

Today is foggy but it is warm enough for me to be comfortable sitting outside in a short sleeved shirt. It does not get any better than this.

Earlier a small red pickup truck was traveling too fast and went off the road, over a 20 foot bluff and onto the beach below. This happened about 1/2 mile south of where we are camped. His truck was totaled, but he lived. They took him away in an ambulance.

The last auto accident we saw along this section or road was about a mile down the road and was staged for a music video by the group, “Cold”. Today they were doing some filming in the same area as the music video shoot.

Once before when we were a couple miles up the road, a company was shooting a motorcycle commercial. It seems there is alway something going on along here.

Going Camping For Sharon's Birthday

We are going camping this weekend for Sharon’s birthday, February 4th. I guess it is only fair since we went camping on my birthday, January 1. The weather is beautiful and predicted to stay that way over the weekend. We should have a lot of fun.

Yes, we are going to the beach again. Last time we camped in a campground across the street from the beach. This time we will camp right on the beach. Well, we will be parked on the campground road right next to the sand. When we step out of the motorhome the first step will be onto sand.

Last year about this time (January 31) we were in the same area and saw a whale only a couple hundred yard (two football field lengths) off shore. It was breaching. The whale would raise 1/2 of its body out of the water and splash back down. What a thrill that was.

Today we went to our local lumber yard and bought a pallet of cutoff wood for only $8. We use this as our firewood. It burns fast and hot. It doesn’t last as long as logs, but we like it. PLUS, the lumber yard we get it from is visible from the back of our warehouse. It is very convenient to get clean firewood. Clean firewood means NO BUGS or spiders inside the motorhome. We store about half our firewood inside and half in a metal box on the back of the motorhome.

Do you camp? Can you camp at this time of year. I hope many of you can. This is a great time to camp in southern California because you can usually get a camping spot without reservations. Later in the year you need reservations for the weekends, and during the summer you need reservations any day of the week if you want to camp along the coast.
